We are APEX Mobile Decks, a line of aluminum decks and accessories designed to enhance your mobile lifestyle.  Founded in 2025, APEX is a new company, but we have over 30 years of hands-on experience making quality aluminum products for the outdoor market.​​

​APEX is owned and operated by the father-daughter team of Tom & Kailey Johnson who together make every product we sell. This hands-on approach ensures a high level of quality and customer service.

Going Waaay Back

Tom learned welding from his dad on the farm, and swore he wouldn't do it for a living. Yeah, right!  It's been his ticket to success ever since.

 

Growing up, it got him a job in town welding steel implements. Later, he graduated to a big shop in Fargo where he spent 10 years honing his craft. Then something clicked...

We're In Business

In 2003, Tom decided his family should have a nice aluminum dock just like the fancy places on the lake, so he built one.

 

The neighbor saw it and wanted his own. Before long, several neighbors had a custom dock from Tom and just like that, Waterfront Recreational was born. Today, the company manufactures and installs custom docks, decks, and aluminum steps all over the country.

 

It's a real family business. Tom and his wife, Becky, are the first to tell you, he didn't do it alone. His kids, Andrew, Noah, and Kailey did a whole lot of welding and installation over the years. Heck, they're even in the logo.

The Next Generation

Kailey practically grew up in the shop at Waterfront Rec, and has become an accomplished welder in her own right. She swore she'd never do it for a living though:)

 

Recently, Tom and Kailey noticed the growing popularity of seasonal campsites, RVs, and park model homes. It reminded them of their old camper and its old wooden deck. Then something clicked again...

    APEX is a line of all-aluminum decks and accessories designed for RVs, seasonal campers, and more. Our products are low-maintenance and built to last a lifetime.
  • What sizes are available?
    Our first mobile deck, the 4'x4' Landing is available now. We also have 6'x8' and 8'x12' models coming soon (June 2025).
  • What colors are available?
    APEX mobile decks come in dark brown, with your choice of tan or grey non-slip decking.
  • What makes APEX different?
    All APEX decks are powder coated, seriously overbuilt, and designed from the ground up with thoughtful, industry changing features. It makes owning and using your APEX a breeze and with proper care, your APEX will last a lifetime.
  • Where can I buy APEX products?
    In person at our showroom in Dent, on this website, or by phone. Selling directly rather than through a dealer allows us to offer better quality products and lower prices. Try us and you'll see the difference.
  • How does my APEX arrive?
    All Decks: If you're within 50 miles of Dent, MN we will deliver and set-up your APEX mobile deck free of charge. Set-up is easy. Two people can do it in a few minutes with one wrench. If you're alone, it might take 15 minutes. CLICK HERE to view our set-up videos and see for yourself just how easy it is. 4x4 Landing, Lake Steps, and Accessories: We offer free shipping via standard carrier to the lower 48 states. 6x8, 8x12, and larger decks: Free delivery within 50 miles of Dent, MN, and free pick-up at our shop. Please contact us with any questions.
  • What about Accessories?
    It's just our Lake Steps for now, but very soon we will be announcing new accessories to transform your APEX into an outdoor entertainment space.
  • Aluminum products made in... Dent, MN. Is that a joke?
    No, Dent is the real name. We didn't have any input, but we do love it here! 😊
