We are APEX Mobile Decks, makers of aluminum decks and accessories designed to elevate your outdoor experience. Founded in 2025, APEX itself is a new company, but the people behind it have over 30 years of hands-on experience making quality aluminum products for the outdoor market.

APEX is owned and operated by the father-daughter team of Tom & Kailey Johnson who together make every APEX product. This hands-on approach ensures a high level of quality and attention to detail.
Going Waaay Back
Tom learned welding from his dad on the farm, and swore he wouldn't do it for a living. Yeah, right! It's been his ticket to success ever since.
Growing up, it got him a job in town welding steel implements. Later, he graduated to a big shop in Fargo where he spent 10 years honing his craft. Then something clicked...
We're In Business
In 2003, Tom decided his family should have a nice aluminum dock just like the fancy places on the lake, so he built one.
The neighbor saw it and wanted his own. Before long, several neighbors had a custom dock from Tom and just like that, Waterfront Recreational was born. Today, the company manufactures and installs custom docks, decks, and aluminum steps all over the country.
It's a family business. Tom and his wife, Becky, are the first to tell you, he didn't do it alone. His kids, Andrew, Noah, and Kailey did a whole lot of welding and installation over the years. They're even in the logo.
The Next Generation
Kailey practically grew up in the shop at Waterfront Rec, and has become an accomplished welder in her own right. She swore she'd never do it for a living though:)
Recently, Tom and Kailey noticed the growing popularity of seasonal campsites, RVs, and park model homes. It reminded them of their old camper and its old wooden deck. Then something clicked again...

What is APEX?APEX is a company that makes a line of all-aluminum decks and accessories designed for RVs, seasonal campers, and more. We're based in Dent, MN and serve customers nationwide.

What deck sizes are available?We currently offer three standard sizes: 4'x4', 6'x8' and 8'x12'. We will also custom build just about any size (or shape) you desire.

What colors are available?APEX mobile deck frames are currently available in dark brown, with your choice of tan or grey non-slip decking.

What makes APEX different?All APEX decks are powder coated for a smooth finish and premium look & feel. Our decks are also seriously overbuilt with 7" sidewalls and 3/8" gauge aluminum, resulting in rock solid performance. We're soon to announce a line of accessories designed from the ground up with thoughtful, industry changing features. All together, we think it provides a big upgrade from a wooden or raw aluminum decks, and especially from traditional fold-out camper steps.

Where can I buy APEX products?You can purchase APEX products directly through this website, by phone, or in-person at our showroom in Dent, MN. We don't use dealers because we believe it allows us to offer better quality products at lower prices.

How does my APEX arrive?If you're within 50 miles of Dent, MN we will deliver and set-up your APEX mobile deck free of charge. Not that you couldn't do it yourself. Set-up is easy! 4x4 Landing, Lake Steps, and Accessories: Free local delivery, free pick-up at our shop, or flat rate $250 shipping via standard carrier anywhere in the lower 48 states. 6x8, 8x12, and larger decks: Free local delivery, free pick-up at our shop, or please contact us to arrange delivery of a larger deck. We usually arrange delivery to your door.
